Yellow Garage dealer Old South Jersey Glass and Antiques has found this 19th Century hand painted wood pantry or band box. The box is probably of Pennsylvania origin. Original hand painted decorations consist of a horse mounted soldier and a painted edge ribbon. The band edges and sides are steam bent and joined with 19th century methods using small tacks. Opening the band box reveals an unpainted wood interior with a rich aged patina. The paint and box show age appropriate wear and usage as seen in the pictures. This paint decorated pantry box is a beautiful example of an antique storage box widely used in many 19th century kitchens.
