Here is a very rare pair of Edwardian cut steel shoe buckles that were hand made in France and date to the early 1900’s. Each shoe clip measures 2 3/8” wide by 2” high and each is marked France across the back frame. They are designed with hundreds of round, marquis and crescent moon shaped faceted cut steel pieces all handmade and riveted to the frame, one by one, to create a simply elegant design that sparkle like black diamonds. Most cut steel Victorian jewelry was silver in color, but this particular pair is a rich dark blue gray iridescent color and a very rare find. All the original steel cut pieces are present on both clips but one of the two clips has some brown tarnished miscolored sections near the center from top to bottom where some of the cut steel beads have begun to tarnish to a light brown color. This aging is subtle but visible to the naked eye and can be seen under magnification is consistent with age and use and being mentioned to be accurate. This striking pair of iridescent blue gray shoe buckles is an extremely very rare find and would make a great addition to anyone’s Edwardian jewelry collection or design project.
