Here is a pair of early, black and clear, Carlos Sobral resin drop clip on earrings, probably dating to the 1980’s. Sobral is a world famous designer who was born in Rio de Janeiro Brazil and has had prestigious boutiques around the world including New York and Paris. Sobral is prensently in his 90's and all boutiques have closed except for the Paris shop. He has been making jewelry since the 1960’s and most of his early jewelry designs have been retired, as has this pair of rare earrings. The top half measures 1” in diameter and the bottom measures 1 ½” in diameter and they dangle on the ears for a total of 2 ¾” long. They are beautifully designed with confetti colored strips, randomly placed, creating an abstract design that shows through the clear resin surface and is all set against a black resin background. Additional design elements were then added using thin, braided, black leather or leather like fiber that was threaded through holes in the bottom half of each earring, creating a 3 dimensional spider like design. They are signed with the typical Sobral incised mark on the back of one earring. These earrings are extremely lightweight weighing less than 1 ounce each. This is a very rare, signed, early pair of uniquely designed Carlos Sobral earrings and would make a wonderful addition to any woman’s wardrobe.
