Presenting a last quarter of the 19th Century Folk Art Oil on Canvas painting of three kittens that have tipped over and are scattering the contents of the jewelry chest of their mistress. All three kittens seem focused on the tassels at the end of the hand fan. The painting is signed on the viewer’s lower right Sr. M. Cherubim, O.?? The last two initials of the sister’s order are not clear enough to identify them with certainty. The painting is framed in an ornate gesso and gilt Victorian frame that is very possibly the original framing.
Medium: oil on canvas.
Condition: as expected, for the age of both the painting and the frame.
AGE: last quarter of the 19th Century.
Dimensions: Gross size with frame: 20 3/8” x 16 3/8”.
Viewing area: 14 5/8” x 10 5/8”.
