Being offered is an Oscar De La Renta strapless evening gown sold through Saks Fifth Avenue from the 1980’s. The raspberry red satin has the look and feel of silk which, we believe it is, although there is no fabric content label. The gown is a timeless classic design by a classic designer.
Design Notes: The bodice is lined with a black long line underwire brassiere with stays/bonings sewn into the brassiere. At the juncture of the bodice and the skirt is a free floating slightly stiff lining which gives body to the satin. Also the lining could do duty as a half slip.
Measurements on the dress form: Bust: 33 1/2”. Waist: 27 1/2 – 28”. Hips: 38 1/2”. Lengths: Center of underarm to hem edge: 45 1/2”. Center of bodice to hem edge: 47”. Top of zipper to hem edge: 45”.
Sizing notes: Stated size 6.
IMPORTANT: Specifically follow measurements of the dress form. Although the gown is a stated size 6 and all of the other gowns and dresses of the estate were size 6, this is the smallest size 6 we’ve seen. There is no give in the construction of the dress from the top of the hips to the underarm.
BUST NOTE: The wearer must maintain sizing of the waist through the ribcage to the underarm. However, the bust on the dress form did not fill the brassiere cup sizing, and we did no additional padding for the photographs. Thus, there is additional room accommodation in the bodice cups.
