An emotional "Homecoming" reunion is the subject matter of this well executed oil on canvas. The painting shows the joy of mother and sisters greeting sons and brothers coming home on a Holiday from boarding school, which seems to be verified by the father trailing the group clutching a travel trunk and an armload of books. The focal point of this painting is very well executed, especially of the faces, hair-styling and clothing of the family... and the little dog too! The detailing of the focal group, in our opinion, is more reminiscent of the detail normally seen on smaller paintings and seldom seen on canvases of this size. This is a genre painting from the late 19th, early 20th, Century depicting a family of the early part of the 19th Century (probably 1820-30s). In our opinion the artist is English and the painting depicts an English country scene. A wonderful painting with a deal of color and emotion. The painting is untitled by the artist, but we have titled it "Homecoming." We have been unable to find reference to the artist.
Condition: We have had this painting professionally cleaned, re-glazed and re-framed. The painting is on its original stretcher. There are no repairs and the canvas is still very full of life.
