This room box from Germany circa 1880 has three rooms which could be decorated as a kitchen, parlor, bedroom, sitting room, or library, given the colors of the original papers in each room. The left room has papers and trim in blue and yellow, which are so desirable for a kitchen. That room measures 10 1/2" wide X 13 1/2" deep X 12" high. The middle room which has a paneled wood working door on each side is decorated with a rose and floral patterned paper on the walls and it measures 13" wide X 13 1/2" deep X 12" high. The room on the right has a blue striped pattern wall paper and it measures 10 1/2" wide X 13 1/2" deep X 12" high. All of the rooms have rear glazed windows which are fixed with wood sills and trim. They also have their original floor papers resembling parquet flooring. There is one set of newer white curtains on the kitchen window. The outside of the room box is also papered in a brick pattern and there is evidence of it having been water stained which is cosmetic and does not effect the stability of the box. The front edge of each room has a column and pediment of wood painted white. A very interesting addition is what appears to be a bell on the side of each interior door. When turned it makes a sound. The only other condition issue to make note of is what appears to be a slight separation of wood which runs along the bottom of the box. Looking carefully at the bottom of the box, it seems that it is the space between the two boards used to make the bottom and it does not effect the stability of the box, but merely separates the floor paper. A couple of area rugs would solve that issue. Overall the box measures 36" wide X 15" deep X 12 1/2" high.
