This miniature doll size bookcase may have been an apprentice piece since it did originate in England at the turn of the century. Cabinet making was a valued profession earned after years of apprenticeship, culminating in the making of a piece of furniture embodying all the various aspects of the trade. This piece which appears to have been made from walnut or a similar hard wood has two shelves, each 15" long X 6" high X 6" deep. They are above two drawers with their original brass pulls. The drawers are dovetailed and have marquetry inlay surrounding them. The front of the drawers appear to have been grain painted. The sides are scalloped and the bookcase is raised on a scalloped apron and bracket feet. The smooth patina is a rich chocolate brown. This would be a lovely addition to a doll display with a larger doll, rocking chair, and lots of books. The overall measurements of the bookcase are 18" long X 7" deep X 18" high.
