This apostle spoon was one of 12 designed by Antoine Heller for Gorham in 1885. Gorham produced two sizes of apostle spoons. This spoon is part of the larger version set. It is 6 3/8" long and in excellent condition. St. Matthew is on the top of the handle. It is monogrammed on the reverse as shown and was presented as a 50th anniversary present for a couple married in 1836. The Gorham lion, anchor, and G trademark is on the reverse together with the word sterling. The bowl of the spoon is gold washed. The bowl is mounted to the handle with a classic rat tail attachment. It is in excellent condition. There are some black tarnish spots under the gold wash but we were hesitant to polish the gold wash. We are offering free shipping on this item.
