The Knowles Sterling Company introduced the Rose pattern in 1881. It is also known as Bug because of the Japanese beetle at the base of the handle. It is a beautiful and highly sought after pattern with raised flowers on a stippled background. The scalloped bowl features a spray of flowers and leaves. This is known as a casserole spoon at one national matching service. It is 8 1/2" long compared to the shorter Berry spoon which is 8 1/4" in length. The spoon is in excellent condition with no dings, dents, or repairs. The bowl has a matte or butler finish and has a faded gold wash. It weighs 2.5 troy oz. and is monogrammed B on the reverse. It is marked with the retailer's name, Wm Wise & Son, and Sterling. The spoon does not have the Knowles factory hallmark but certainly is the Rose/Bug pattern. This is not a recast piece.
