Edgerton was a trademark of the Pickard China Company in Chicago, IL. This particular factory mark dates these plates to circa 1928-1938. They were produced on Royal Bavaria Hutschenreuter blanks which date from 1925 to 1939. These stunning plates have fine, intricately etched gold encrusted inner and outer borders and an elaborate, lace-like, gold filigree over the enamel rim. The enamel appears black but we honestly can not tell because of all the gilt. The decoration could actually be a very dark cobalt. They are 10 1/2" in diameter, slightly scalloped, and in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, utensil marks, or repairs. Note however that there are areas where the gold has worn slightly from stacking (see close up photos and enlarge). This is honest wear and does not seriously detract from the beauty of these plates. They are marked on the reverse as shown. These are gorgeous, display beautifully, and definitely make a statement. We are offering free shipping for this set of 12 plates.
