This wonderful Tresseman & Vogt handled cake plate was painted on the Venice pattern blank which features swirled ribbon like handles and heavy gilding. Venice is not the name of this particular design but rather it is a blank designation. It was patented in 1896. The plate was painted and signed by Rousset, one of T & V's foremost artists, whose work is featured in many Limoges reference books. He is best know for his floral scenes. The cake plate has the factory under glaze mark as well as the T&V over glaze decorating mark as shown. The very dark, teal green background is a wonderful complement to the pink and red roses. The gilding is extremely heavy. The cake plate is 11" wide including the handles and is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, or repairs. There are no utensil marks. There is slight wear to the gold trim on several areas on the very outer edge. These are not readily apparent unless one is looking at the very edge. This cake plate would be a stunning addition to any collector of hand painted, Limoges rose plates in general or collectors of Rousset's work specifically.
