This 8 1/4" salad or preserve spoon is part of a rare and early Albert Coles Palace pattern seervice. The Palace pattern with its angular design was different and innovative for the period. A plain bowl was produced but this scalloped, fluted, and pointed bowl adds to the mystique of this pattern. The Albert Coles firm was aquired by Shiebler and pieces of this pattern can be found with Shiebler hallmarks. The spoon is marked with the Coles' bird, A C diamond, and head hallmark and Albert Coles. We presume it is coin silver as in is not marked sterling and because of the hallmarks which are attributed to Albert Coles in Dr.McGrew's book on American coin silver hallmarks. The spoon has never been monogrammed and in excellent condition with no dings, dents, or repairs.
