Wow! Look at the size of those stunning Persian blue turquoises on this very finely designed pin/pendant. You recognize excellent workmanship when you see a curved pin stem so that it is invisible when worn as a pendant. The bale is fixed and generous enough in size to fit a nice white gold or platinum necklace. It is estimated to date from the stylish 1950's.
The pin measures 1 3/8" in diameter and weighs 10.2 grams. The turquoises have an average diameter of 7.85mm, and you can just barely see the matrix on the back, assuring us of their genuine nature. The bright, white single cut diamonds are 2-3mm in size. There is one 2.5mm round brilliant diamond at the end of the ribbon design.
The blue-green color of turquoise historically symbolizes water and sky, fruitful harvests, health and protection. This gemstone has been revered since ancient times in cultures ranging from Persia, ancient Egypt, Tibet and the American Southwest, and it was worn for the hope of security and beauty.
NOTE: The faint yellowish cast that you see on the pin is a combination of my lighting and the mellowed look of white gold. Sometimes the rhodium finish they put on white gold begins to wear off, giving the piece a mellower look with time. The pin really does look like white gold in real life.
