Antique and vintage diamonds and sapphires were brilliantly reemployed in this one of a kind 18K gold handmade pin/pendant, crafted by Derek Simpson of New Haven, CT in the late 1970's - early 1980's. Simpson was born and trained in the silver and goldsmithing fields in England, and he started his lovely shop in New Haven in 1971. A client, who possessed family gemstones, commissioned this one of a kind piece from him.
The centerpiece of the pin/pendant is a large, bright white Old European cut diamond that is estimated in the mounting to weigh .63 ct. It is 5.5 mm in size, the next two largest diamonds are .25 ct each. The smaller diamonds are transitional cuts. The total diamond weight is estimated to be 1.44 ct., and they are all VS2 in clarity.
The bright blue, high quality sapphires are also older cuts, and the largest one is 4 mm, estimated to weigh .87 ct. The total estimated weight of all sapphires is 1.0 ct.
This versatile piece weighs 9.59 grams and is 1 1/4" in diameter. Derek Simpson is still crafting beautiful pieces today, and he has authenticated this jewel, which is clearly signed.
A 14K gold rope chain is shown with the brooch in the last pictures. It is 18" long, weighs 4.0 grams and is 1.5 mm wide. It may be included with the pendant for an additional $150.00.
