This offering is for a 24" Winnie Walker boxed doll, model #2537 by Madame Alexander.
The doll has stunning face paint with highly colored cheek blush. (Please note any white areas on her lip paint are reflections of light and not loss of paint.) Her blue eyes are bright and clear and they open and close smoothly. Winnie has a wonderful dark brunette wig which I believe is a harder to find color. The wig retains a great deal of original curls but a few have flattened and/or loosened around the area where the cap's brim comes in contact with the wig. Removing the cap has also created some fly-away strands. I have placed a few vintage hair pins to keep the curls intact. Her walker mechanism and head turning works perfectly. There are a couple of small spots/dots on the right leg and right wrist as illustrated. Both her left arm and the back left lower leg are lighter in color than the rest of the body. This has been nearly impossible to capture in pictures no matter how I angle the photo lamps. The picture of Winnie laying down is the best illustration I could get of the fading of color.
Winnie is wearing her original outfit comprised of a pink organdy dress, satin petticoat and matching bloomers, socks, center snap shoes and ivory lace cap. The fabric of the clothing is very crisp with no rips, tears or stains. The dress has dainty lace trim and tiny pearl buttons. The button closures in the back are firmly attached. The elastic of the sleeve cuffs has relaxed. The satin petticoat and matching bloomers are excellent and the snaps of these are firmly attached. I have not removed her shoes and socks, but the straps and snaps are firm and without wear. The lace cap with ball fringe and lace trim is nicely stiff and the black velvet ribbon streamers with cabbage roses at the ends are lovely.
The box is in TLC condition. The base is structurally sound but the lid is very poor with missing sections of the sides as well as tape in areas. The bottom end of the box has the model label - #2537, outfit color Pink, wig color Brown - the Madame Alexander foil sticker and the original price sticker. Although the doll was excellently stored, wrapped in layers and layers of tissue paper to preserve her, the box and her little hatbox did not receive the same care. The hat box was loose in the doll's box and has wear. There is some missing black paper on the top and no Madame Alexander stamp. I cannot see any residual print or indentation but I don't believe these boxes were ever produced without her name. The elastic handle is relaxed and there is indented cursive on the lid of the word "silver." The Winnie Walker tag is in good condition. The comb is missing one tine at the end and it shows melt marks where the curlers touch it. The curlers are in good condition.
