A charming early 19th century English Staffordshire child's ABC earthenware plate. The verse reads, " For age and want save while you may no morning sun lasts all day." It features a central scene with a man and woman being approached by a man who appears to be begging. A great verse for teaching children the importance of saving. The plate has a transfer print and is decorated with the raised letters of the alphabet along the outer edge. There is a skip to the transfer print and the colors are a blue green hue. The condition of the plate is relatively good, considering the age. There are no visible chips or cracks. It should be noted there are spots of discoloration, crazing and some wear to the outer edge in certain areas. It measures approx. 6 5/8".
