This is a captivating and creative work of art, by one of the leading names in American Art. This landscape is painted with different shades of blue and has almost a vibrancy to the overall quality. There is a crispness and depth to the color, with the depiction of the mountains and the clouds in the sky. His style is somewhat reminiscent of the other noted American artist named, Rockwell Kent.
The artist, Joseph Santoro, (1908-1996) was born in Cambridge, Mass. and attended Massachusetts College Of Art. Later he taught at Rindge and Latin High School in Cambridge, Mass. He was a noted New England artist who often did watercolors of landscape, marine and seascapes in this vicinity. His style was realism, naturalist and representation. He was a member of The National Academy of Art, The New England Watercolor Society, The Guild of Boston Artists, The Rockport Art Association and The American Watercolor Society. This painting was acquired from a Boston estate sale. According to my research, Joseph Santoro did sign his paintings with two or three different types of signatures, depending on the the time frame. I believe, that it was originally sold at an art gallery located in Burlington, Ma. area, mostly likely in the 1960's period, because of the writing on the back of the frame.
This watercolor was taken out of the frame, so the photography would be more accurate. On the back of the watercolor there are numbers, written in pencil, which read, 60594.
The condition of this painting is excellent. I will ship this item, without the glass, to avoid any possibility of breakage and damage to this watercolor.
Dimensions: The frames measures approx 14 1/2" in length and 12 3/4" in width. The watercolor measures approx 8 34/" in length and 6 1/2" in width.
The condition of this item is very good, without any discoloration or tears.
