This gorgeous and very architectural brooch was made by Oscar Caplan. It is Art Deco period c1940. The brooch has beautiful lines and a three dimensional design with the individual pieces stacked on one another. The brooch is made of fine silver (.9999% pure silver). On one end of the brooch a beautiful green chrysoprase cabochon. Parts of the brooch may have had a gold wash at one time which has worn to a lovely patina. The brooch is 1-5/8" long and 5/8" wide and it weighs 9.4 grams. This is an outstanding example of Art Deco period design.
The brooch is signed Oscar Caplan. It was tested to determine the fine silver content. Oscar Caplan Jewelers opened in 1905 in Baltimore MD. Their unique creations were known for the fine jewels and precious metals.
