Lovely large sterling berry server in scoop/shovel form in the desirable Persian pattern by Tiffany & Co., circa 1880. This berry shovel measures 9 1/2 inches long, with the fluted shovel portion measuring 3 3/4 inches x 2 1/2 inches. Weight is 96 grams/3.1 oz troy. The handle front contains a blank cartouche, which may have at one time had a monogram removal-if so it was well done; front and back both display the beautiful Persian motif, with just a bit of age wear to the high points and a small area of the shovel blade with a rough area-to feel only-no dent or dings. The handle reverse is interesting, as it contains the Tiffany & Co. stamp, Sterling, the patent date as well as the M date mark corresponding with the 1869-1891 period of Edward C. Moore-this piece has an overstamp of Webster, which we think was the retailer, who stamped over the Tiffany stamp, and not down the handle as normally found. There is no doubt of what it is pattern wise and who the maker was. A wonderful piece that would make a stunning gift or addition to your sterling service.
