I have finally come to the realization it is time to start downsizing my Mah Jong collection of almost 20 years. The games in my store have all been lovingly displayed and played with over the years I have owned them and I truly hope their new adopting family will treasure them as much as I have !
Mah-Jongg Sales of America (MJSA) were located in San Francisco originally in the 1920's and appear to have been the largest importers of Mah Jong games into the US.
Both Bakelite and bone & bamboo games were sold under the Mah-Jongg Sales of America logo and their font and spelling of Mah Jong with a double G were copyrighted by the founder Joseph Babcock.
This particular game is a very early style from the 20's. It has beautiful green swirled Bakelite racks with Bakelite E's. The tiles are made of Bakelite.
This game has 152 tiles - it would originally have come with 146. The remaining tiles have been added to the game from another MJSA game. The style of white, red and green dragons is unique to MJSA.
There are 10 flowers - 2 bouquets numbered 1-5 and 6 stickered tiles to be used as jokers. Tokens and dice are included with the game. Please note the case is missing its handle.
I have a full set of photos available if you would like me to send them to you. And I would be very happy to answer any questions you may have regarding this lovely old beauty.
