Presented here is an early 19th Century extremely rare and surely unique medal of Lady Mary as our Lady of Sorrows - Mater . It is hand painted on porcelain, then Kiln fired, Enameled and inserted in an 18 k gold frame. ( tested not hallmarked)
Origin is very probably from Spain.
This medal is of utmost beauty and presents a unique depiction of a Virgin Lady fallen to the ground unable to withhold the pain, with the heart pierced by the swords representing her 7 sorrows: It is highly dramatic and extremely well painted, a real work of art, making this medal unique and of extreme rarity.
It is two sided : on the obverse The Virgin Mary and on the reverse : Nos. Seg. de Los Dolores : Our Lady of the sorrows.
The hand work is extremely fine.
The medal has been inserted in an 18 K tested solid gold frame .
The medal is very early 19th Century - making it practically two hundred years old and still in pristine condition.
Total weight of medal is 3.65 grams.
Dimensions of the medal are : 25 x 20 mm or 1.0 x 0.8 in. ( excluding bail)
The medal is in pristine condition and it is sold WITHOUT the chain in the picture.
