Presented here is an exceptional and extremely rare pendant Locket dating from the late 19th Century

The hand made locked has a very fine jewelry working as may be seen in the pictures. It is made of Sterling filigree work and is studded with extremely rare SAPHIRET stones that have a Diamond cut. ( see explanation of Saphiret here below).

The saphirets on this locket are of top quality as may be seen by their exceptional shine and sparkling blue and brown hues.

The locket is in an exceptional pristine condition. Inside the locket is a place for a relic, photo, hair lock, etc.. which is protected with a small glass pane that clicks in. The glass is mineral glass, in perfect condition, as new. The locket part is protected by a sterling mesh. Please study the detailed photos.

a) Dimensions of the pendant/locket are 50 x 30 mm inclusive of the bail ( 2 x 1.2 inches). Its thickness is 15.5 mm (0.62 in.)

b) The weight of the locket is 15.7 grams and the weight of the chain is 13.7 grams giving a total of 29.4 grams

c) The middle big saphiret is 12 mm in diameter . There are 8 saphirets around it and one on the bail and their individual diameter is 5.6 mm

The Chain which is included in the offer is 50 cm long ( 20 inches ). It is not of the same period but is also vintage. It is all hand made.

Saphiret glass was made in Gablonz, Czechoslovakia, in the mid XIXth Century.
The process was to mix melted gold in sapphire blue glass.
The result was an opaque to semi opaque glass that had a range of colors from pinkish brown to red with soft glowing blue reflections on the surface and which had the particularity to change color and contrast under different lightings and backgrounds.
Production was stopped very early 20th century because of the increase of gold prices. So all saphiret items are pre Art deco, mostly Victorian/Edwardian.
Today genuine saphirets are of high rarity and much sought after stones by collectors.
