Offering an antique Victorian locket from before 1901. The Victorian lady depicted seems to be in repose showing off her mane of curly hair. She has a very contented look on her face. I believe she is star gazing on a summer's night. The first star she sees happens to be a very tiny Old European diamond that is about 2mm in diameter.
The clasp and hinge work well on this locket. It shuts with a pleasant click. The weight is 7.9 grams and it measures 1 1/4 inches in diameter. The decorative bail adds some height to the locket. Please see the fourth frame for a closeup of a tiny ding on the back of the locket.
The professionally engraved monogram looks to be from left to right, C, A, S. I believe the middle initial on antique jewelry and textiles represented the last name. Monograms, once indicators of social exclusiveness, are now symbols of creativity.
