Although this extra large shallow bowl is identified as a centerpiece bowl, it would make a wonderful cake plate. Its rolled edge would serve very well as an icing lip. It could easily hold a 10 inch cake and there would be room to spare. The pattern is Heisey Rose, Etch 1515 on the Waverly blank. The pattern features an open rose with stems, leaves and rose buds. The glass has a swirl design. The rim is crimped.
The bowl is 12.6 inches and is round with upturned edges. The bowl is about 1.5 deep. It is large enough to make a great serving platter for a holiday meal. I have used it as a centerpiece with flower blossoms floating in the bowl.
The piece was made by Heisey Glass Company between 1947-1957. This piece is still ln good vintage condition with no chips or cracks; however there may be utensil marks but they are not immediately obvious. The Rose pattern was very popular and Heisey made a wide variety of pieces using this design. Overall, this is still a beautiful centerpiece bowl.
