Here is an unused notebook given to visitors of the Democratic National Convention in 1972. Eastern Airlines made these notebooks to be given out at the Miami Beach, Florida convention. The cover is dark brown leather-look vinyl with the donkey logo and name stamped on the front in metallic gold lettering. The inside of the cover has the Presidential Seal stamped in a decorative design. The paper notebook is inserted into a clear vinyl opening.
Inside of the notebook there are empty, unused calendar style pages to make notes, and in the back there is a listing of the state by state votes in 1968. There is a section to tally votes for this convention. This is before we had primaries to elect a president. There is also a listing of state delegations and at which hotel they are staying.
The 1972 Democratic National Convention nominated Senator George McGovern for president and Senator Thomas Eagleton for vice president. Eagleton later withdrew, and he was replaced on the ballot by Sargent Shriver.
This convention was very contentious and there were many political protests in the Miami Beach area. It was heavily covered by the Press.
This notebook is in very good condition, and has been stored in a smoke-free home. It's unusual to find a vintage political piece of memorabilia in nearly perfect condition after forty years.
