Carved by Harmony Kingdom artist, Peter Calvesbert, this box figurine is part of the Large Treasure Jest Series. "Drake's Fancy" features a mandarin duck, with very elaborately carved feathers. Since this is a very early piece by Peter, it does not incorporate the hidden mouse, inscriptions, or any Harmony Kingdom hallmarks. Peter Calvesbert went to work for the small business that became Harmony Kingdom in 1990 and sculpted several duck box figurines at that time. These were not put into production until 1995.
This "Drake's Fancy" is the original version, or First Mould. As one of the first produced, the inside is empty and the year of production hallmark stamp on the bottom is the crown with treble clef, the mark that was used in 1995. In later productions, a small egg was added, and there were more of the egg version produced. This "Drake's Fancy" is one of the more rare and hard to find versions by Peter.
Released in 1995, this very early Treasure Jest was retired in early 1996. This popular collectible is referenced in "The Harmony Kingdom Reference Guide" by Leanna Barron (2002), page 86.
Harmony Kingdom boxes are hand crafted, using marble resin, from original carvings. Then each is hand painted and tinted for a one-of-a-kind figurine. The boxes are hand painted by citizens of the rural English countryside of the South Cotswolds. There are differences in colorations on each piece.
This Treasure Jest is in perfect condition, from the inventory of a closed store, and it will come in the original Harmony Kingdom green canister box with place card. We will also include some small brochures with information on Harmony Kingdom.
