Presented here is a Harmony Kingdom Limited Edition Treasure Jest called "Alexandre", sculpted by David Lawrence. This box figurine features a mouse tangled in a ball of yarn, and wondering how to get free. The story of the Gordian Knot holds the key to his release. Once upon a time, the King of Gordius tied his wagon to a beam with a knot of the most exquisite complexity and proclaimed whoever could untie it would reign over his domain. For many years ambitious wannabes tried and failed. Alexander the Great finally solved the riddle ... he withdrew his sword and cut through the tangle at a blow.
Inside the box is a small Morris Bell, an instrument used by Morris Dancers in their traditional English folk dances. Artist David Lawrence is an avid Morris dancer. David's trademark acorn is hidden in the loops of yarn.
This Treasure Jest was released in 2003 and retired in 2004. Hallmarks include the copyright sign, a peace sign, the HBC logo, and DL. The artist's initials are printed on the bottom and the limited edition number is written on the top lid; this one is #1019. "Alexandre" was limited in distribution, and is difficult to find.
Harmony Kingdom boxes are hand crafted, using marble resin, from original carvings. Then each is hand painted and tinted for a one-of-a-kind figurine. The boxes are hand painted by citizens of the rural English countryside of the South Cotswolds. There are differences in colorations on each piece.
This mouse is in perfect condition, from the inventory of a closed store. It has never been displayed. The bottom has the Harmony Kingdom label, indicating it was made in England. It will come in the original green Harmony Kingdom box, with certificate, and we will include a small brochure with information on Harmony Kingdom. This clever and creative box is referenced in "Price Guide to Contemporary Collectibles and Limited Editions" by Mary L. Sieber, copyright 2004.
