Antique Sterling Silver Coin Purse - Birmingham
This is a beautiful purse made by Edwin Jones, Silversmith, Birmingham, UK ca. 1820s - 1840s. Hallmarked "EJ" with the anchor, walking lion and capitol P. This hinged purse has a delicate swag floral design on both sides and still has an extremely shiny finish. Inside it is a lovely shade of green leather with three compartments for coins, etc. and is in exceptional condition. The clasp makes a nice snap sound when closing. There is a chain handle with a circle ring that probably would have been used as a chatelaine also. There is a light stain on the leather inside and a slight tiny dent on the outside. Neither distracts from the beauty of this purse to me. Comes with the box I received it in at Estate Sale. Measurements are 3 inch by 2 inch by 3/8 Inch. The chain is 3 inch on each side of the ring. The craftsmanship is of highest quality.
