This is a very lovely, very early sterling silver master butter knife. As is often the case, these earlier pieces are not stamped with a maker's mark making the pattern difficult to identify. That's what is happening here.
The closest pattern I could find is the Antique Tip by Whiting, which dates from 1880. However, this piece has lots of aesthetic style engravings on both the front of the handle and the blade. So, I'm calling the pattern Antique tip engraved.
This piece measures 7 1/4" long. It is very nice condition but will need additional hand polishing. It is stamped sterling J. Gray, probably the original retailer.
