Today we have the pleasure of offering this Rare and Early 1700's Hand Carved Wooden Cage Doll. This early doll is a one of a kind. It measures approximately 23" tall. Although is condition is not pristine, he display's beautifully. He has large carved hands which are very detailed. His face has chipped some of the paint, however this too, only adds to his distinction.
His green silk jacket is worn and tattered and has accumulated quite a bit of shelf dust over the past 300 or so years. The arms of the jacket are stuffed with fabric and the hands are attached to the wrists of the jacket. I don't know if he ever had a skirt.
Please note that one of his slats of the cage is missing. He still stands firm and is stable.
This is a wonder cage doll and a beautiful early example. He would be an asset to any collection.
