The History of the Grand Army of the Republic was written by Robert B. Beath who it was at the time felt could best give an accurate history of the Grand Army of the Republic. The book is dark blue with little light spots over the front and back (see picture) The words history and republic are in gold as is the seal while grand army is black lettered with gold trim. The eagle is also gold. In black are two men with a canon and drum. On the inside cover are example of two more editions of the book (see picture) and in the back is a place where names can be listed to receive copies of ones choice. There are numerous sketches of men and women who were a part of the GAR. There are two pages of corps insignias. (see picture)It is copyright 1888. Except of the spots the book is in very good condition. It is a bit over nine and half by seven inches.
