Antique Victorian lavalier mourning necklace, with an onyx orb, sterling silver. This is an unusual and beautiful necklace, the orb is undrilled and suspended with a sterling silver band in the same manner as antique Pools of Light orbs. Onyx was a common material for mourning jewelry used in the Victorian era between 1860 and 1900, the orb has been shaped and polished to a high gloss. The large 20mm in diameter orb is adorned with a sterling silver tassel, a warm age appropriate patina has developed over time, the necklace fastens with a spring clasp marked for sterling silver.
