~ Cased Late Victorian Oval Portrait Painting Of A Young Girl ~
The portrait is in a gilt brass oval frame with a suspension loop. It is a watercolour painting on card of a young girl in a white lace dress with a white ribbon tied to her curly locks.
The easel case can be used as a frame, a stand is set flush to the reverse.
The foot of the stand is gilt stamped "Ambert Weston & Son, Folkestone". The inside reveals deep blue velvet lined padding. The portrait can be slid into the oval shaped recess, with the small hook holding it in place. The borders have been decorated with gilt scroll patterns.
~ Dimensions ~
The portrait has a width of 2.2 inches (5.6 cm) & a height of 3 inches (7.6 cm).
The frame has a height of 4.6 inches (11.6 cm) and a depth of 0.7 inches (1.7 cm). When closed it has a width of 3.7 inches (9.3 cm). When open the frame has a width of 7.7 inches (19.5 cm).
The set weighs 140 g.
~ Condition ~
The gilt on the frame is word, especially to the front. The painting is of high quality, a little faded, with excellent eyes. The case is in good order, some slight wear. The lower part of the stand has wear from frequent use.
