~ Circa 19th Century British Royal Navy Officer's Bicorn Hat and Epaulettes ~

There are black and golden cockades on either side of the hat, with twisted gold wires next to them.

The edges are finished with black brocade featuring a continuous oakleaves & acorns design.

The inside is lined with white silk and leather 'sweat band'.

The makers details include “Royal Crest & gold lettering: J Friedeberg, 81 Queen Street, Portsea”.

The epaulettes have twisted gold wire fittings sewed on, golden silk, with an “anchor” marked button and an anchor design at the front and blue lining at the back.

The back of the epaulettes include “By special appointment, Royal crest, To his majesty the King, Gieves Limited”.

~ Dimensions ~

The hat is 16.5 inches (42 cm) in length from fore to aft, sits 5 1/2 inches (14 cm) tall and has a headband length of 20 inches (51 cm).

The set weighs 840 grams.

~ Condition ~

The beaver is soft and unstained; the hat’s shape has held up excellently, it is only the soft fabric that shows any service wear (refer to pictures).

Some of the gold wiring on the epaulettes has become undone but the set presents well.
