~ Framed Chromolithographic Print 'England Expects Everyman To Do His Duty' c1806 - Nelson - HMS Victory ~

A fine chromolithographic print dated 1806 entitled 'England Expects Everyman To Do His Duty' picturing Lord Nelson upon the HMS
Victory during the battle of Trafalgar.

The print is after an original painting. We know the painting was executed by someone named Vittore Z... but any more information
we do not have. Unfortunately there is some slight wear along the lower edge of the piece which just so happens to obscure the rest
of the painters name and also the engravers name, so it is hard to attribute this image.

The title 'England Expects That Every Man Will Do His Duty' refers to the famous signal sent by Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson of the
Royal Navy from his flagship HMS Victory as the Battle of Trafalgar was about to commence on 21 October 1805.

The print depicts the HMS Victory during the battle of Trafalgar. Nelson can be seen amongst his men, falling backwards after being
wounded by gunshot from a marksman from the Redoubtable, which ultimately led to his death just three hours later.

The print was published just one year and one month after the battle on Nov 21st 1806.

The print is mounted and presented in a modern glazed frame.

~ Dimensions ~

The print measures 49.5cm (19 ½ inches) by 62cm (24 ½ inches).

The frame measures 68.5cm (27 inches) by 81cm (32 inches).

The piece weighs 4.17 Kg.

~ Condition ~

Apart from the afore mentioned wear to the names along the bottom edge of the print there is a little damage to the image in the
face of the chap at the ships wheel. Other than this the print is in a good condition for its age with only a couple of very minor, very
small creases but no foxing or fading.

The frame is in good order.
