~ Pair Of Model Treen Cannons Made Of Wood From HMS Foudroyant ~

A finely detailed pair of hand carved naval cannons made from wood taken from HMS Foudroyant.

Both are made entirely from a dark stained hard wood, this includes the cannons, carriages and fittings with only the exception of a few brass screws
and a central pin.

They are not marked in any way but we know of their provenance as they were purchased from a specialist collector.

~ Dimensions ~

The cannon barrels each have a length of 21cm (8 ¼ inches).

The cannons on their carriages each measure 23cm (9 inches) in length by 13.5cm (5 ¼ inches) wide with a height of 10cm (4 inches).

Together they weigh 765g.

~ Condition ~

Both are missing their capsquare pins which have been replaced with small cut off pieces of insulated wire although they blend in well and are not
immediately noticeable.

Both pieces are in a very nice condition with minimal wear and no damage, the wood has a fantastic patina.

~ HMS Foudroyant (1798) ~

HMS Foudroyant was an 80-gun third rate of the Royal Navy, one of only two British-built 80-gun ships of the period (the other was HMS Caesar
(1793)). Foudroyant was built in the dockyard at Plymouth Dock (a.k.a. Devonport) and launched on 31 March 1798. Foudroyant served Nelson as his
flagship from 6 June 1799 until the end of June 1801.

Foudroyant had a long and successful career, and although she was not involved in any major fleet action, she did provide invaluable service to
numerous admirals throughout her 17 years on active service. In her last years she became a training vessel for boys.
