Ca 1920's ~ STERLING on backside of filigree box clasp
For your consideration, a wonderful strand of Job's Tears Hard Seed hand knotted beaded necklace. This necklace features natural hard seeds often called Job's Tears, Kukui Nut, Cherokee beads and many other nicknames. The nut is from a plant which now grows in most tropical areas called Vaijayanti Mala. These beads are the hard seeds from the tall grass like plant. They have been popular for jewelry making for centuries. This particular strand is from the Art Deco Period and features seeds that are white to a turquoise green and brown. It has a lovely sterling silver box clasp typical of the period. The structure of the piece is very sound and sturdy. No condition issues with this nearly 100 year old piece. I know the providence to be from Hawaii and was brought back as a souvenir of a fellow collector's travels in the late 1920's. Necklace measures 26 inches and will arrive gift boxed.
