Ca 1870
For your consideration, I have to present a wonderful cut steel scabbard or fancy sword brooch. This is an amazing piece of art history.
when I first came across cut steel jewelry, I thought the cut steel was the base or setting and this jewelry was adorned with marcasite or hematite stones. I believed this for quite some time until I was doing some research on this jewelry and learned that the stones on the cut steel jewelry are actually the cut steel the jewelry is referred to. Tiny nail heads were faceted and painstakingly placed in rivet like settings. Each of these stones had faceted and set with the pin of the nail?Seriously, this is awesome and unbelievable. This particular pin brooch is just gorgeous and has always been one of my favorites. I had no real understanding of the level of talent and work that went into creating it.. This is just over 2" long and is in pristine condition. No missing elements and pin stem is straight and tight. I did my best with photos but it doesn't really do it justice. This amazing piece will arrive gift boxed.
