This is a lovely Cabochon of Rhodochrosite that is set into a Sterling Silver Brooch with a Rope Design
The Rhodochrosite measures 30 x 22 mm wide and is 5 mm high. There is some pretty banding, and various pinks and grays in this Gem as well as a small area of sparkly crystallization , that is easier to see visually. It is not captured in the photographs.
The setting is a bezel style with a rope edge design and was manufactured by the UNCAS company in Providence Rhode Island.
The Gem has nothing to do with Uncas, and was set into the brooch by the artisan who cut the cabochonThe rope edge design matches the Grays and the banding in the stone very nicely.
This is a beautiful and sturdy brooch with a strong and well operating pin stem, with a lock.
The Finished brooch measures 1 1/2 inches long by 1 inch wide.
The Brooch comes from a Fine Jewelry and Gem Estate in New England, whose owner has some lovely Rhodochrosite Pieces.
This Gem is probably from Argentina , as the greatest deposits of rough are found there.
The Brooch dates from the 1950's and is a classic design with a very pretty and unique Rhodochrosite.
