An ornately engraved gold locket pendant in the shape of a heart, marked ‘9ct backs & fronts’ on one side. Both sides have an engraved border, with another heart shape inside it, both engraved although one side has a small blank space for initials. The locket is topped with a pagoda mount and a fixed bale. The locket is hinged at the side and opens and closes easily. Inside there is a photo of a little girl on one side and material on the other.
Some late Victorian and Edwardian lockets were manufactured with solid gold fronts and back, set on a sturdy metal frame as this made them stronger and easier to engrave. To indicate this, they are stamped ‘9ct backs & fronts’. The locket weighs 2.67 grams and measures 1 inch excluding fixed bale and ¾ inch across. Its thickness is 0.18 inches.
Postage is in the price.
