This book is: Edward Fitzgerald, translator, "Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam" illustrated by Willy Pogany, published in New York by Thomas Y. Crowell Company in 1930. It contains 12 tipped in color plates by Pogany as well as numerous black and white designs and illustrations and the pictorial end papers. The book is hard bound with light brown cloth covered boards and elaborate gilt stamp decoration on the front cover and the back strip. This is one of the many versions of the great Persian classic which,in modern times, always featured illustrator's interpretations of the story outlined in the epic poem.
Willy Pogany (1882-1955) was one of the great illustrators of the 20th Century. He was European trained and eventually worked in the United States also.

Condition is fair. The plates and text are clean and tight. It is inscribed by the former owners on the front end paper and notated in pencil on the last blank page after the text. There are 3 pale blue lines on the front cover. It is bumped with losses at the corners and has 2 short (1/4 inch x 1/8 inch) losses at the top of the back strip.
This is a nice edition for a collector of the Rubaiyat and its main value is in the plates and decorations by Willy Pogany.
