This gorgeous vintage Pina linen handkerchief is made from pineapple fibre from the Philippines. Very light and airy, close to an organdy appearance, it is sheerly transparent with a finely detailed embroidered floral on one corner. Trails of flowers and pineapple looking central flowers are wreathed around drawn lace which also graces each corner. It is finished with a scalloped scrolling border of raised dots and sprigs, A rare find in Pina linen, it is an exquisite handkerchief that would be a fabulous wedding accessory. It has been soaked gently, and pressed, ready for use. No holes, rips or stains. Stunning! Measures 14" square.
Pina is a textile traditionally made from strands of fibre beaten from the leaves of pineapple plants. It's extremely difficult to weave, but in the nineteenth and first half of the twentieth century was the prestige fibre for men's barongs (formal shirts) and women's bodices.
