There’s nothing quite like the restrained elegance of the Edwardian Era. Abundance and luxury of every kind, always threatening to break through the stiff constraints of the day and age. A day and age which felt in command of a newly mapped world even as it was terrified of giving in to the indulgence of the new world they found themselves in. Platinum was the material of the age, as it is here, topping 18kt gold, which forms a graceful gallery beneath, for the gems to float on top. The emeralds and diamonds flicker and flutter, glow deeply, sparkle deeply, shine brightly, and beckon on, the simple geometric design formed by the stones deceptively simple, but like a kaleidoscope, entrancing all the same. The mille grain edges, the way the band flows open to engage the center crown, all makes a smooth, beautiful whole.
Condition: Excellent antique condition. Despite some wear to the settings of the emeralds (not surprising, given the age of the ring), they and the diamonds are well set. The center diamond is about 0.10 cts or 10 points. Each of the diamonds in the corners are around 2.5 points, giving a total weight of about 0.20 cts for the diamonds in the ring. There are two pairs of emeralds and if you look that match each other in color. The slightly-lighter color pair of emeralds are more worn in their settings than the slightly darker pair. This could be due to one of two causes. The first that the slightly darker pair is a replacement pair of stones, however, the settings look undisturbed and show a good amount of wear, so this is not a forgone conclusion. The second possibility is that the slightly darker emeralds are a little lower in their settings, and over the course of a hundred years that slight difference led to one pair getting worn down more than the other. Whatever the case, in person the emeralds are small but lovely and these details are provided not because they are eye-visible but out of accuracy. The box is NOT the original box, but it is a period Edwardian box. The ring face is an 11.6 mm diamond shape and the ring itself is between 7 and 7 ¼.
