A glittering paste bow with ruby-colored edges stands at your service, as ready to pin to a blouse as to decorate a hat, tie up a scarf, or keep the feathers of a fascinator in order. Dating to the late Art Deco era, this piece exhibits the streamlined style we so admire of the Art Deco period but with something of the exuberance and flash of the Retro period of the 1940s. The ribbon of the bow winds around, its pastes graduating in size to accommodate its delicately curving lines. Careful pierce-work adds both to the complexity and the beauty of this superb brooch!
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Measures 2 ¼" by a little over a half inch wide. All pastes are well set and original. This one is a bit difficult to date. The pin stem and clasp are modern, but the pastes aren't molded, they are old European cut, hand-faceted pastes. If they were later, they would have just been molded glass. The setting is base metal, and is a cast piece, but it is done well and with more detail, especially the back, than would be done in later periods. The style also borders the Art Deco period with a touch of the later Retro period. So I'm dating this circa 1925-1940, but wished to explain in better detail the dating process for this piece.
