Frederic Lanternier began as a Limoges porcelain exporter about 1857. From 1885 to 1887 he was in the partnership Lanternier & Breuil, which reopened a factory in Rue La Fonderie, Limoges to make whiteware. In 1887 his son, Alfred Lanternier joined the firm.
This lovely 14 piece ice cream set was made by Lanternier and decorated by Bawo & Dotter (Elite Limoges). The lovely Botanical designs are transfer ware with hand painted gold accents on the ruffled rims. This set includes ; 1- 15 3/4" by 9 1/4" by 2 1/8" large bowl, 11- 6 3/4" Diameter with a 1 1/8" height plates, 1- 7 1/4" diameter with a 1 1/8" height plate, and 1- 5" diameter 3/4" height plate. The set has the A L backstamp and the impressed porcelain mark. The set also has the Elite Limoges back stamp.
This set is in good condition with three exceptions. The smallest plate has a crack, one of the 11 plates has a chip on the rim and the large bowl has a small chip in the back (see photos last 3 photos).
This set is a charming treasure.
