This lovely hand-painted tray from 1902 is beautifully done. The multi-colored hues of grapes, leaves, and background evoke the tones of early autumn when grapes hang lush and ripened on the vine. The artist signed the tray "Lori Katz '02." I believe it to be Bavarian in origin. The tray would have been used as a punch bowl accessory for holding punch cups or goblets, or it could have been used as a holder for glasses of summertime beverages.
The tray measures 11 7/8" in diameter. It has a rim height of 3/4". The weight is 2 pounds, 8 ounces. The hand painting on this piece is exquisitely done. It could fulfill both a functional and a decorative place in any home where quality hand- painted porcelain artistry is appreciated.
