This beautiful Pirkenhammer chocolate or coffee pot with accompanying serving tray and many cups and saucers is stunning. The Pirkenhammer backstamp dates from 1918 to 1938. The F B S Czech stamp designates the Ferdinand, Bing and Company Successors. This company exported goods from Czechoslovakia between 1909 and 1930, giving this set a manufacture date between 1918 and 1930.
The lovely color scheme includes the predominant red band festooned with gold leaves and flowers. The surrounding bands are of sky blue and forest green highlighted with more gold. The tray and the chocolate pot bear the same idyllic pictorial cartouche of Greek or Roman women at repose. There are four different scenes that are depicted on the demitasse sized cups--one such scene matches that of the tray and chocolate pot.
The set includes the following: 1 - tray, 19" by 10 7/8"; 1 - Chocolate pot with lid, height 7" with lid on, handle to spout measures 6 1/4" with an outside rim diameter of 2 3/4"; 16 - cups, height 1 7/8" with a rim diameter of 2"; 13 - saucers, 4 1/4" diameter.
This set is in excellent condition with the exception of a tiny rim chip on one saucer and two saucers which have a factory flaw or old repair to the rim. See last two photos.
