This charming little cup tells a story in many ways. The cup is engraved "Mary C. Meyers From Grand Papa". The cup has a repousse grape leaf design. The cup is 3 1/2" in height with a rim diameter of 3". The cup is marked ROGERS BROS with a period under the S. On the bottom near the edge looks like the silversmith's initials. The cup has lost some of the silver plate and the rim and base are misshaped. The cup is very sturdy and would be hard to bend.

The original company was strictly family. William Hazen Rogers became an apprentice silversmith in 1820. In 1847 Asa Rogers and his brothers joined the company. The company was called Rogers Bros. from 1847 until 1855 and was located in Connecticut. In 1855 the name changed to Rogers & Bros. Mfg. Co. The Meriden Britannia Company bought Rogers Brothers Silver in 1862. Meriden became part of the International Silver Company in 1898.

This cups tells the story of the descendants of the Myers family and the history of Rogers Bros. My item #1559, engraved coin silver H. S. Sprague spoon dated 1862 is from the same estate.

I love the charm of this item and the history it represents.
