This is a pair of old mirrored sconces, cleaned and rewired with new candle covers. The purplish blue flowers are painted brass. Frames are all brass, you can see the tiny leaf detail. A brass bow tops if off – in the French style. The sockets use regular American candelabra base bulbs. Backing behind the mirrors is tin.
While the frames are in excellent condition, as expected, the beveled mirrors are not perfect. Both mirrors have minor flaws around the perimeter of the glass. The damage is not to the glass but to the backing. Because the mirrors have a tin backing, damage must be the result of age alone. As it is too expensive to repair the backing on a mirror, people just accept old mirrors with their flaws as evidence of age.
